Badass Sci Fi Road Trip- Day 5- Part I
Transcription update- 378 entries, 270.5 pages. 10 to go. I WILL be done tomorrow! But we’re just getting started in Sedona. Let’s hike, Badass Sci Fi style!
I know it’s a little messy, but so was The Second Hike. Times are in red, so yeah, I started on the trailhead around 10:46 a.m., and first spotted my car again at 6:42 p.m. Worst, hiker, ever. Please, partake in a little schadenfreude at my expense.

4 o’clock in the morning, local time… Thinkin’ about the book…Jeep tours…so we could park the Hellcat at the ranch, and pick up a Jeep that looks like a tour Jeep. Maybe a bright pink tour Jeep, or whatever, that has a hidden 50 cal semi auto…tucked in the roll bar… And then maybe a Jeep chase. Pretty sure we’ve seen a lot of those, but not on the roads that I saw today…or…yesterday, off roads.
06-16-18- Entry 266- Sedona
It’s about 9:30 my time (8:30 local)… Rather dreary day. Heavily overcast. Been sprinkling, drizzling, raining pretty much for the last hour. But you know what, I like it, because A; it makes for some interesting viewing…
Gonna do [location withheld] today, and then some. Hopefully this weather keeps people away.
06-16-18- Entry 267- Dry Creek Trailhead
I left the trailhead about…10:50 local time. On Girdner Trail right now headin’ towards [deleted]. Hopefully we get some good imagery, use it…
Um, already made one wrong turn back towards the car, so I don’t know if that’s a bad omen or not.
I hope I’m goin’ the right way, because I’m once again by the road. I don’t know where I’m going.
06-16-18- Entry 268- Hiking
Well, it should be an adventure tryin’ to find [nope]. Shoulda gotten an earlier start… Half an hour in, and I’ve already backtracked twice.
Don’t gimme attitude. I don’t wanna have to twist my ankle kickin’ your ass.
Yeah, I’m not a very good fighter. I’m what you might call a snapping turtle. I’ll turtle, but I’ll fuckin’ snap your scrotum off.
06-16-18- Entry 270- Hiking
Well, I think I’m finally on the final approach to [you’ll figure it out] trailhead…finally. After three wrong turns, all on, or dealing with, Chuckwagon trail.
06-16-18- Entry 271- Some Sort of Trailhead
So, we’re at [I said it wrong, then corrected myself, but both names are meaningful] trailhead. Can’t wait to go up it. It’s gonna be awesome.
Got some low clouds…pretty ominous.
Gonna do a loop around Coffeepot Rock, Capital Butte…do the Chimney Rock… You got about 8-9 miles ahead, so should be good.
About two hours in, about three hours to go.
Still, nothing like Grand Canyon. But this is a little more meaningful. Just as meaningful to the novel, but more meaningful as far as actual location scouting.
I don’t know if this also an omen, but while I was sitting down eating a Clif bar, I put my backpack next to me, and my foot, heel, was positioned perfectly to let the water out of the fuckin’ faucet…out of the mouthpiece. I don’t know how much I lost, but my backpack feels a lot lighter.
So, here we go…[maybe next time].
Until next time, don’t bother me. I’m hiding a book.
Damn that map looks like a web of trails to get people lost forever, lucky you made it out alive! Mustve had help from… Plato!?
A few others won’t be so lucky…with help from Plato!
Theyll deserve it!
