Badass Sci Fi Road Trip- Day 1- Part V

Transcription update.  120 entries transcribed.  69 pages.  About a third of the way through day two.  Almost to the Grand Canyon!  I can’t wait to share.  But first, lets put a ribbon on an ‘extraordinary’ (we’ll get to that later) day 1.

“Getting a little darker, but I can tell we’re headin’ west because…the horizon, er-uh, the horizon…is glowing.  The sky behind past the horizon is glowing, as if the sun has just set behind it.  ‘Smack.’

Oh, and I just finished, and am going to listen again to, ‘Walhalla Awaits’, ’cause that’s the road.  Junkie XL, Mad Max: Fury Road soundtrack.  That’s the road that awaits the, uh, warboys, like Nux.  He’s gotta be, I think, yeah.  He’s my favorite.  His road to redemption is best.  But, I liken it to my…and it was unintentional at the time, but Valhalla of course.  Walhalla, um, and then in Halteres, Vathoul.  The caverns of Vathoul that are at the core of Halteres Minor, where the Mendax are going to escape when the surface becomes uninhabitable.”

“This stretch of 145 between Telluride…sigh, and wherever the fuck we’re goin’, is a long one.  This’s been the most uninterrupted valley I’ve probably been through in my life and I’m gonna have to remember that for future reference and hopefully, if I ever do this again, be able to go all the way through Silverton and whatnot next time.  I hope those guys are doin’ alright.  Pastures are green.  The river’s flowin’ to the left.  To the right, foothills.  Conifer covered foothills.  I don’t know where I’m going…”

“…Funny how you don’t consider bugs on your windshield roadkill, but…I guess, after the little duckling, I’d say, well especially now.  I mean, dusk has set in, and it’s a fuckin’ sea of gnats and skeeters and whatever else pepperin’ my windshield.  But yeah, hundreds upon hundreds of dead bugs.  So, I guess in the organism realm, sigh, avian, arthropod count…they can both fly, right?  Sure…So, there’s been a lot of roadkill today and this evening especially.  Sorry.  I guess…nobody should drive.”

But, um, fuckin’ incredible day.  Absolutely incredible day.  Couldn’t have asked for anything more.  Um, sore.  A little cranky.  Um, but holy cow.  I’m so glad I did this.  So much inspiration.  And the just stunning…moments of clarity and realization that…we’re so small…

It’s been a good day.  I wanna thank everyone who made this possible, sniff, in any way, shape, or form, which is basically everyone I know.  They’re…everyone in my life has made this possible for me to go on…a solo, pre-50 road trip…and basically take my novel to the next level and take myself to the next level.”

There you have it.  Day one.  Hope you enjoyed.  Can’t wait to start day two.  Tomorrow.  Day two is always tomorrow.

Until next time, don’t bother me.  I’m getting ready for day two.
