Transcription update- 363 entries, 256 pages. Into day 10; the last full day of the journey, and the longest day of the year! Which brings me back to today. Now, I’m juggling three different timelines here. Where I am in my blog posts, where I am in my transcriptions, and where I am, period.
I left you on a little bit of a ‘cliff’ hanger yesterday. I should have just finished Day 4 then. I’m confused.
What I mean to say is; I am writing in the present, about events that happened a month ago, while transcribing events happening in the future relative to the events I’m writing about, but in the past relative to today (or whenever you read this). Enjoy!
06-15-18- Entry 263- Sedona, Arizona
…but I had to. There’s this little crack between the Bridge and canyon wall. I don’t know how wide it is.
“I can jump that.”
However long drop is down…you fall down that and you’re seriously fucked.
“I’m gonna jump that.”
It’s scary lookin’ down. It’s a crevice. It’s a 127 hours deal…heh… I put all my stuff down. I keep lookin’ at it.
“I can do that.”
This is…this is the…crack of Devils’ Bridge, the Devil’s Crack. I look over. I stand. I put everything down. I’m shaking. I’m nervous.
“I’m gonna do this. I’m gonna do this.” My legs are tired from yesterday. “Alright, let’s do this. It’s not that hard. It’s not that hard.”
It’s an incline.
I do it. I jump, and I land, and I land fine, and I made it. But I’m going uphill, and just for a brief half-second, I start falling backwards, and in that moment…is death… That moment, you’re gonna die.
I catch myself… Your legs are shaking, and your whole body’s shaking. Throw your arms forward, and your center of gravity equilibrates, and you’re safe. But god damn…for a split second, you weren’t safe.
I don’t know if I’ll ever tell anybody that.
The coolest thing is…you’re gettin’ there around…8 o’clock local time…to the Devil’s Bridge, and I was the only one there…
Tomorrow’s gonna be all sorts of crazy… At least one planned hike… If you’re talking about location scouting, there are so many perfect spots in just that part of Sedona, and up at those trails and canyons looking to other canyons.
Maybe instead of just pulling on the side of the road, they gotta do some hiking. So yeah, it turns into a different kind of climax. The assault becomes a little more technical. Shit, lookin’ to the canyons…you don’t just walk up those fuckin’ things.
I mean, there’s serious rewrites coming. The framework of the story is good… It’s got a beginning, where you’re…introduced to some characters, and find out that…somethin’s brewin’… The middle is the road trip, and the end is the assault. Sedona Assault.
Are you following me?
How high are you?
Well, I’m glad I dedicated an extra post to 06-15-18. This helps me as much as it helps you, which is hopefully more than none. Tomorrow, the Second Hike.
Until next time, don’t bother me. I’m jumping crack.
